'BUPA GREAT SOUTH RUN'

CCCCCCCCCC

ON 9TH OCTOBER 2005 MICKEY AND PETER HILL BOTH RAN THE BUPA GREAT SOUTH RUN. THE RUN WAS 10 MILES LONG AND TOOK PLACE IN PORTSMOUTH. THE RUN WAS DONE TO RAISE MONEY FOR PETERS CHOSEN CHARITY "SANDS" HERE'S THE STORY:-

DAY 1 - SUNDAY OCTOBER 9TH - THE RUN

On the morning of Sunday 9th October Mickey Hill drove down to Portsmouth and met Peter Hill and the run location. Peter Hill had spent the previous night in a hotel in Portsmouth with his family who had come to support him on this run. So they both met up and went to the start line to get ready for the race. It was a pleasant day and good running conditions. The run went well. Pete's family had taken many pictures of the boys during the run on Mickey's camera. There were some good photos but we don't have them any more. (this will be explained later) So the only two photos that exist of Mickey and Peter running the Great South Run are two dodgy photos taken from the South Run website. (See Below) After the run they collected their medals and Pete said goodbye to his family and Mickey and Pete were let loose in Portsmouth. They met up with a friend Tom Denning who was at uni in Portsmouth and it would be the Denning residence where the boys will be staying for the next couple of nights. So after showering and changing it was time for a well earned pint. Mickey, Tom and Peter went out drinking. In the first pub they were chatting to the barstaff about the Great South Run and Peter mananged to convince them that he had actually won the race. A few pubs down the line and our Friend Adam Thoroughgood joined us. Adam had got the train down from Tonbridge to get involved. A few pubs and drinks later Adam wanted to view the photos Mickey had on his camera of the run. Somehow and Ithink only adam can explain how he managed to select the 'Delete all photos' option on Mickeys camera. It was processing the deletion and we could not stop it all we could do was watch and see all our photos and memories of our run be erased! Obviously this kind of error from adam could not go unpunished. We thought a suitable punishment for this was to strip down to he boxers and run round a water fountain in the middle of Portsmouth. So these we the first photos that were recorded from our trip to Portsmouth. During this incident we met a local lad that we got on quite well with and had good chat and banter. We then went for a nice kebab. A lot of drink was consumed tonight but for now it was time to head home and get some rest for the main drinking session tomorrow.

DAY 2 - THE ISLE OF WIGHT BARCRAWL

Day 2 was the day Pete originally planned to head back home as he had to be be back to work on the Tuesday and was only told the night before by Mickey that they had all booked the Tuesday off work and planned a day of drinking today. An offer Pete couldn't refuse so that was the agenda today. As Portsmouth is just a short ferry trip away from the Isle of Wight it was decided this would be our location. We had discussed if it would be possible to visit every single pub on the Isle of Wight but after a little research (texting Any question answered 63336) we found there was over 50 pubs so this was not possible. So we decided to go and see how many we could do. On the ferry trip the boys starting playing a game on their phones. They would make up a random mobile phone number and text "Hi, I am on a ferry. Have a good day!" to see what response they would get. Adam Thoroughgood got a response from Hailey an 18 year old girl from Cambridge. Result! Peter however got Dave a 40 year old man from London who in no uncertain terms told him to stop texting this number. Adam kept his conversation with Hailey going and Pete keep giving Dave regular updates. "Hi Dave I am going to the toilet, Have a nice day", "Dave, I am drunk" etc.. So once the boys arrived on the Isle of white they began visiting as many pubs as they could. After a couple of pubs it was time for Pete to phone his boss to tell him the news that he would not be back at work tomorrow. He used the line "Right I am not going to lie to you, I am on a barcrawl on the Isle of Wight and there is not way I am able to come to work tomorrow". The barcrawl continued. Soon they spotted a chip chop called "The Codfather" who claimed they will batter anything. A claim we would put to the test. We entered and asked for a battered pie. "Batter my pie!!" The request was denied. We persisted the lady behind the counter was giving a good response and banter but we keep saying "Batter my pie!!" and she eventually flipped and went off on one at us! Time to leave but we did find the phone number for the shop we later made a couple of phone calls to the lady. "Batter my pie!!" So the Codfather does not actually batter everything like they claim! After a very successful Isle Of Wight barcrawl the boys got the ferry back to Portsmouth. In a very drunk state they were causing lots of mischief and antisocial antics after leaving the ferry. They were approached by a security guard who shouted. "Oi! I know everything you have done!!" we was like, "What everything, ever?!" We moved on and headed back to Tom's house for more drinks and to get changed into suitable clubbing clothes. We then continued the barcrawl in Portsmouth and very randomly bumped into that nice local lad we had met the previous night on the other side of Portsmouth. Lots of pointing in his facing and shouting "It's yoouuu!!" followed. He seemed more scared tonight and less willing to interact with us. After this we hit the club. In the club some girl was trying to copy and keep up with Pete's danced moved, not an easy task and soon she stacked it and took a nasty tumble of the side of the stage. lesson learnt there I think. It was a good night in the club. While getting some air outside a man walked past us and making decided to shout "Bum you mum!" at him. This man turned round and then started to shout in Peter's face who he thought had shouted the remark. No fistycuffs though. Time to head home after a long day drinking and get some sleep.

DAY 3- TIME TO GO HOME

Day 3 was the day to go home. Pete actually should have already been home and at work today . After the previous night we had a relaxing morning then took a little wonder through Portsmouth where we found the fountain again which we made Adam run round in his boxers of the first night. The fountain had been drained of all its water and was in the process of having a big clean. Not sure if this had anything to do with Adam's antics the other night. We will never know. Our Portsmouth trip was over and we all headed home.
